Visitor Profile

We recently profiled 500 of our users via an online survey. The results are summarized as follows:

  • 80% are male, 20% are female. 11% are 15 years of age or under, 52% are between 16 and 20 years of age, 21% are between 21 and 25 years of age, 8% are between 26 and 30 years of age, and 8% are 31 and older.
  • 82% of the users are located within the United States and Canada, 6% are located within the United Kingdom, 4% are located within Australia, and 2% are located within Singapore. The remaining 6% are spread across a wide variety of countries from around the world.
  • 46% of users are currently in high school, 36% are in college, 3% are in middle school, and 15% are college graduates.
  • 92% are using a PC Compatible, 3% are using a Macintosh. 64% are using Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, 18% are using Microsoft Windows XP, 12% are using Microsoft Windows 2000 or NT, 3% are using MacOS, and 3% are using Linux/unix.
  • 35% use a 56k modem to connect to the Internet, 29% use a cable modem, 15% use DSL, 10% use a 28.8 - 36.6k modem, 9% have T1 access or faster, 2% use ISDN.
  • 40% spend more than 20 hours playing computer games, 19% spend 6-10 hours, 16% spend 16-20 hours, 17% spend 11-15 hours, and 8% spend less than 5 hours.
  • 53% prefer to play just roleplaying games, 42% prefer to play a combination of roleplaying games, adventure games, action games, and simulation games, 2% prefer to play just adventure games, 2% prefer to play just action games, and 1% prefer to play simulation games.
  • 65% prefer to play pc games, 21% prefer to play console games, 8% prefer to play pencil and paper games, 3% prefer to play card games, and 3% prefer to play arcade games.
  • Of the users that own one or more game consoles, 51% prefer the Sony Playstation 2, 26% prefer the Sony Playstation, 13% prefer the Nintendo 64, 10% prefer the Microsoft XBox.
  • 51% plan on purchasing non game-related software within the next year year. 67% plan on purchasing computer hardware within the next year. 72% plan on purchasing game or game-related software within the next year.
  • 59% typically purchase 3 or fewer games in a year, 26% typically purchase 4-6 games in a year, 9% typically purchase 10 or more games in a year, and 6% typically purchase 7-9 games in a year.
  • 40% visit the Materia Magica website 10 or more times during the week, 24% visit the website 4-6 times a week, 15% visit the website 7-9 times a week. While on the Materia Magica website, 52% spend 20 to 40 minutes, 29% spend 10 or fewer minutes, and 19% spend 40 or more minutes.
